Prince George’s County Memorial Library System (PGCMLS) acknowledges the difficulty of engaging seniors during this time due to lack of digital access and literacy. In June 2020, PGCMLS piloted a phone program in June for Juneteenth, where customers could dial-in to hear a lecture on the history of the holiday. In an effort to expound on low tech programs, PGCMLS also features The Golden 30 series, a 30 minute program with topics geared towards seniors that is available by phone and online. Ask a Librarian telephone reference is available for customers with direct questions and concerns. Books By Mail, a free service for any Prince George’s County resident who can no longer access the library due to physical disabilities or vision impairment was resumed in Phase 1 of the reopening plan. In addition to PGCMLS' virtual programming, we share information on third-party programming. In cooperation with the PGCMLS Foundation, we facilitated Ready, Set, Bank for older adults that discuss safe online banking. PGCMLS also maintains its partnership with the Prince George’s Senior Provider Network (PGSPN) by sharing programs and resources.
