    The following is a list of helpful resources from government agencies, non-profits, our partner organizations, and other trusted sources. This collection reflects questions frequently asked at our libraries and serves to connect the PGCMLS community with resources outside the library's walls.

    • Buy Prince George's - Movement started in response to the COVID-19 pandemic supporting residents by keeping them home and supporting local businesses by connecting them with residents for shopping goods and services.
    • Free Annual Credit Report - The Fair Credit Reporting Act (FCRA) requires each of the nationwide consumer reporting companies — Equifax, Experian and TransUnion — to provide you with a free copy of your credit report, at your request, once every 12 months. Visit this site for information about credit reporting, imposter sites and how to order your free credit reports.
    • LOCATE: Child Care - Free telephone counseling or self-guided online searches for parents and guardians seeking licensed child care in Prince George’s County.
    • Maryland Real Property Data Search - This database allows you to search the Maryland Department of Assessments and Taxation Real Property database and display property records.
    • NAUPA (National Association of Unclaimed Property Administrators) - Search any state for unclaimed funds.
    • BBC Country Profiles - Full profiles provide an instant guide to history, politics and economic background of countries, territories and institutions.
    • CIA World Fact Book - Country information includes sections on geography, people, government, economy, communications, transportation, military and international issues; also flags of the world.
    • Organization for Economic Co-Operation and Development (OECD) - The Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development is an intergovernmental economic organization with 36 member countries, founded in 1961 to stimulate economic progress and world trade.
    • United Nations - The United Nations is an international organization founded in 1945 and is currently made up of 193 Member States. 
    • U.S. Department of State Background Notes - These publications include facts about the land, people, history, government, political conditions, economy and foreign relations of independent states, some dependencies and areas of special sovereignty.
    • World Leaders - The CIA’s current and comprehensive listing of international government officials including cabinet members and heads of state.
    • Classroom 2 Community - Education Empowerment Equity: If you are interested in ESL, English language practice group, GED classes , Computer classes, or a workshop to help you get a job
    • Cyberbullying Research Center - Data and information for Youth, Parents, and Educators on cyberbullying and digital citizenship.
    • FastWEB - FastWEB provides an online search of 1.5 million scholarships, as well as internships, college matching and more.
    • FinAid: The SmartStudent Guide to Financial Aid - A comprehensive, independent and objective guide to financial aid.

    • Judy Hoyer Family Learning Center - The Judy Center is a place where community-based agencies and organizations collaborate under one roof to serve children and their families within or near a school. This integrated approach promotes school readiness through early childhood care and education as well as family support and health programs.

    • People's Law Library of Maryland - The People's Law Library (PLL) is a legal information and self-help website maintained by the Thurgood Marshall State Law Library, a court-related agency of the Maryland Judiciary, and supported by Maryland's non-profit legal services providers, Maryland pro bono attorneys and the legal academic community. 
    • PGCC ESL Career Pathways Program - This adult education ESL program helps English Language Learners earn free workforce certificates and learn about the American workforce system.
    • Prince George’s County Public Schools - The school system is headquartered in Upper Marlboro and is one of the nation's 25 largest school districts, has 208 schools and centers, more than 130,000 students and nearly 19,000 employees.
    • Prince George's Community College (PGCC) - Prince George's Community College is a place where anyone can achieve their professional, educational, and personal goals.
    • PGCC Adult Basic Skills and Literacy - This program from PGCC helps adults build the basic reading, writing, and math skills needed for success in school, at work, and in our community.
    • PGCC Adult Education ESL - Search and sign up for classes through the Prince George's Community College if you want to improve your English speaking, listening, reading and writing skills. 
    • PGCC Sage Program - SAGE is Seasoned Adults Growing Educationally, a tuition-free program of stimulating courses for Maryland residents aged 60 and older. Classes take place in over 25 convenient, community-based venues throughout Prince George’s County.
    • Employ Prince George's - Provides workforce intelligence and solutions for the job seeker and business. Their mission is to contribute to the economic vitality of Prince George’s County by providing a demand-driven system that delivers qualified workers to business and provides job seekers with opportunities for careers in high demand/high growth industries.
    • Federal Position Classification and Qualifications – Provides federal position classification, job grading and qualifications information that is used to determine the pay plan, series, title, grade and qualification requirements for most work in the Federal Government.
    • Maryland – Workforce Exchange - Job seekers in Maryland can now search thousands of presently open and active, real-time jobs across our State. This site aggregates every job search website, every employer website, and every job posting in Maryland, creating a real-time, web-based, one-stop shop for Maryland job seekers.
    • Occupational Information Network (O*NET) – This database of occupational requirements and worker attributes for Federal positions describes occupations in terms of the skills and knowledge required, how the work is performed and typical work settings.
    • Prince George’s County Government Job Opportunities - View current openings and apply online.
    • USAJOBS - The official job site of the US Federal Government is a one-stop source for federal jobs and employment information.
    • Skillup Prince George's County - SkillUp Prince George's County is designed to help Prince George's County build a workforce ecosystem that supports positive economic development. Job seekers can explore career pathways, view local job postings, register for free online learning, and receive workforce services. Employers can search for qualified candidates, post jobs, and receive in-depth consulting to address hiring and training needs.
    • AfriGeneas - An online community dedicated to training and sharing resources for researching African American Genealogy. It's a good entry point if you're starting out and are interested in the basics.
    • Family Search - The largest collection of genealogical and historical records in the world, linking valuable research resources to help people discover who they are.
    • MD Genealogical Society - Publications, educational programs and resources dedicated to the preservation of Maryland’s genealogical history. 
    • Prince George's County Genealogical Society - Established in 1969, the Prince George’s County Genealogical Society is the oldest Maryland county genealogical society in continuous existence.
    • Prince George's County Historical Society - Founded in 1952, this all-volunteer, non-profit organization works to fulfill its mission of preserving and promoting the County’s long and diverse history.
    • Washington D.C. Family History Center - Local branch and volunteer organization offering a newsletter, online resources and an African American ancestry special interest group.

      • American FactFinder, US Census Bureau - Searchable database of every town, city, county and state in the US.
      • Census 2020 - Every 10 years the U.S. Census counts every resident in the United States. Your participation determines representation and how billions in federal funds are distributed. If our community is undercounted, friends and neighbors miss out on an estimated $18,250 per person over a 10-year period. Statewide, that’s a total of $26.6 billion over a 10-year period.
      • Congress.gov - Includes bill status and text, Congressional committee information, and full text of the Congressional Record.
      • FDSys: Government Printing Office - GPO’s Federal Digital System (FDSys) provides free online access to official publications from all three branches of the Federal Government – search, browse, download or print.
      • Social Security – The official source of Social Security Administration information.
      • USA.gov - Official information and services from the U.S. government. Also available in Spanish.

      • Maryland Assessment Procedure Manual - More than 250 procedures published online detailing the state of Maryland's processes for assessment and taxation.
      • Maryland Commission on LGBTQ Affairs - The Maryland Commission on LGBTQ Affairs can help deliver the voices
        of LGBTQ Marylanders to the governor and executive branch and to alert the administration about real-time needs of the community in Maryland.
      • Maryland Legal Aid - Maryland Legal Aid (MLA) is the largest provider of free, direct legal services in Maryland and the state’s 3rd largest law firm*. As a private, non-profit law firm, MLA provides a full range of free civil legal services to low-income people statewide, in Baltimore City and in Maryland’s 23 counties, from 12 office locations. MLA handles civil (not criminal) cases involving a wide range of issues, including child custody, housing, public benefits, consumer law (e.g., bankruptcy and debt collection), and criminal record expungements to remove barriers to obtaining child custody, housing, and employment.
      • Maryland State Archives - Serves as the central depository for government records of permanent value. Its holdings date from Maryland’s founding in 1634 and include colonial and state executive, legislative and judicial records; county probate, land and court records; church records; business records; state publications and reports; and special collections of private papers, maps, photographs and newspapers.
      • Maryland State Law Library - Serves the needs of Maryland’s citizens and government by building and preserving collections of legal information resources, promoting access to these collections, and creating educational opportunities that enhance the understanding of legal information. Also includes the People’s Law Library of Maryland, a legal and self-help site.
      • Maryland State Publications - This digital collection of Maryland publications is collected from Maryland state agencies, executive commissions, task forces and interstate agencies and covers subjects of interest to consumers and researchers alike. 
      • Reentry Resources by County (Maryland State Government) - A vast collection of resources compiled by the state of Maryland to assist individuals reentering society after spending time in the prison system or rehabilitation programs.
    • Prince George’s County
      • Prince George's Arts and Humanities Council - Founded on the purpose to promote, foster, encourage, coordinate, and exchange information and activities concerning culture and arts.
      • Prince George’s County Click 311 - Service requests may be submitted by dialing 3-1-1 if you are inside the county. Examples of requests include requesting bulk trash pick-up, reporting a missed trash pick-up, reporting a pothole, reporting a property problem, finding if your vehicle was towed and more.
      • Prince George’s County Government - Find what you need about Prince George's County. Categories include: Agencies/Executive Branch, Conference & Visitors Bureau, County Council, Courts, Economic Development, Library System, Park & Planning and Schools. 
      • Prince George’s County Department of Parks and Recreation - Things to do, locations, rentals and permits, etc.
      • Prince George's County Office of Ethics and Accountability - The Office of Ethics and Accountability provides increased accountability and oversight by identifying fraud, abuse, and illegal acts. It also supports the Board of Ethics to exercise its authorities granted to it under the Prince George’s County Code of Ethics to promote the public’s trust of County Government and ensure the impartiality of employees and county elected officials in the execution of their duties. The Office of Ethics and Accountability is charged with investigating complaints of fraud, waste, abuse, illegal acts and ethics violations in Prince George's County government.  If you see or suspect a violation by County employees, please report it here.
    • Afro.com Archives - Features various AFRO editions covering an impressive span of change, division and progress in African American History.
    • American Rhetoric - Index to 5000+ full text, audio and video versions of public speeches, sermons, legal proceedings, lectures, debates, interviews, and other recorded media events.
    • Common Sense Media - Expert reviews and hand-picked lists for quality entertainment (books, movies, games) and technology.
    • Chronicling America: Historic American Newspapers - Search America’s historic newspaper pages from 1789-1924 or use the U.S. Newspaper Directory to find information about American newspapers published 1690-present. A great resource for primary historical records!
    • Digital Collections, Library of Congress - Archived photographs, videos, manuscripts and documents – the amount of primary documentation here is staggering!
    • We Need Diverse Books - Resources by librarians, teachers and youth media creators that reflect and honor the lives of all young people. Their reading lists include award-winning titles and diverse literature for kids and teens.
    • 211 Maryland Rental Assistance - 211 is a one-stop housing resource whether you’re looking for affordable housing, facing eviction, need emergency housing or need help paying your mortgage to avoid foreclosure.
    • Consumer Financial Protection Bureau's Help for Renters - Help for homeowners and renters during the coronavirus national emergency.
    • Emergency Rental Assistance Program - The Prince George’s County Department of Housing and Community Development (DHCD) offers relief to landlords on behalf of renters and tenants experiencing financial difficulties due to the COVID-19 pandemic for the Emergency Rental Assistance Program (ERAP).
    • Maryland Emergency Rental Assistance Call Center - (877) 546-5595, Has COVID-19 affected your ability to pay rent? You may be eligible for assistance with current or past due payments.
    • Maryland Legal Aid - (301) 560-2100, If your landlord files an eviction against you, you will have to go to court. If you need a lawyer, Maryland Legal Aid may be able to provide legal advice or representation.
    • Prince George's County Community Legal Services - (240) 391-6370, If your landlord files an eviction against you, you will have to go to court. If you need a lawyer, CLS may be able to provide legal advice or representation. CLS also provides brief advice clinics.

    • Aging and Disabilities Services Division, Prince George's County - There are a growing number of people who are faced with making life-changing decisions for themselves and elderly family members. The Aging and Disabilities Services Division provides and supports a broad range of services and programs for older adults and their families.
    • Grants For Seniors - Resources in all 50 states for seniors:  Financial Help, Health Care, Help with Rent, Housing Assistance, Food Assistance, Clothing Assistance, Transportation Assistance, and Daily Life. 
    • Juanita C. Grant Foundation (JCGF) Village Connector Experience - The Juanita C. Grant Foundation (JCGF) is launching the Village Connector Experience service to interrupt the increased social isolation among older adults exacerbated by COVID-19. 
    • Senior Resource Guide, Prince George's County - A valuable resource providing information, assistance, referrals and options to empower people to make informed decisions about accessing public and private programs that enhance their quality of life.
    • Sage Program, Prince George's County Community College - SAGE is Seasoned Adults Growing Educationally, a tuition-free program of stimulating courses for Maryland residents aged 60 and older. Classes take place in over 25 convenient, community-based venues throughout Prince George’s County.
    • Prince George’s Senior Provider Network (PGSPN) - The Prince George’s Senior Provider Network (PGSPN) is a non-profit service organization whose mission is to improve and enrich the quality of life for Prince George’s County seniors and their caregivers. Members include businesses, non-profits and government representatives dedicated to serving Prince George’s County seniors through collaboration, education and service to the community.
    • Cisco Networking Academy - This global platform offers a great selection of self-paced online courses to help you gain career ready skills.
    • Digital Learn - If you are new to computers, haven't used them for a while, are a little unsure and uncomfortable, or just need a bit of a refresher, these tools will help you tackle technology at your own pace and gain the confidence you need to succeed.
    • FCC Consumer Guide: Plan Ahead for Phase Out of 3G Cellular Networks and Service - If your mobile phone is more than a few years old, you may need to upgrade your device before your mobile provider shuts down its 3G network, to avoid losing service. Carriers are shutting down their 3G networks, which rely on older technology, to make room for 5G. As a result, many older cell phones will be unable to make or receive calls and texts, including calls to 911, or use data services, affecting 3G mobile phones and certain older 4G mobile phones that do not support Voice over LTE (VoLTE or HD Voice). This could happen as early as January 1, 2022. Consult your mobile provider's website for the most up-to-date information.

    • Khan Academy - Khan Academy offers practice exercises, instructional videos, and personalized courses for coding beginners.  Courses include introductions to HTML/CSS, Javascript, website design, and computer science fundamentals. 
    • Northstar Digital Learn - Northstar Digital Literacy tests your computer skills. You can build skills in key areas, and demonstrate your knowledge by earning certificates and badges. Prepare for your future now!
    • Online Safety & Security (USA.gov) - US government-approved guide to staying safe online. Includes information on internet fraud, email and smartphone scams, phishing, and digital hygiene tips.
    • Privacy & Internet Safety (Common Sense Media) - Research, tips, and tools designed for parents about keeping kids and families safe online. Contains guides to privacy settings, parental controls, device reviews, and lists of safe apps and websites.
    • Surveillance Self-Defense (EFF) - This guide to digital privacy includes resources on protecting passwords, devices, and online accounts and personal data. 
    • Tech Boomers - Access over 100 free website and app courses along with thousands of useful articles with the tips and tricks you need to take your tech skills to the next level!
    • County Commission for Veterans Affairs - The mission of the Commission for Veterans is to elevate, develop and promote new and existing programs and services for Veterans and their families within Prince George’s County.
    • Maryland Department of Veterans Affairs Resource Guide - Located in communities throughout Maryland, Maryland Department of Veterans Affairs Veteran Benefits Specialists assist veterans and their eligible dependents in acquiring benefits. For assistance, contact the full time office most convenient to you. 
    • For Veterans experiencing Homelessness - The U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs offers a number of services to homeless veterans.  The Department provides opportunities to return to employment, safe housing, health care and mental health services.  There is a 24/7 hotline for homeless veterans or those concerned about a homeless veteran to call for support.
