Join us for an engaging book reading and signing event featuring Marita Golden, acclaimed author of "How To Become A Black Writer", "The Strong Black Woman", and "The Wide Circumference of Love". During the event, Sonsyrea Tate will interview Golden following her reading, offering a deeper insight into the themes and inspiration behind her powerful works.
The audience will also have the opportunity to participate in a Q&A session after the interview.
Books will be available for purchase, sold by Busboys and Poets.
Marita Golden is a bestselling author, journalist, activist, and consultant famous for crafting over 20 fiction and non-fiction works. Starting as a freelance writer and editor for magazines such as The New York Times and Essence Magazine, she released her debut memoir, Migrations of the Heart, in 1984. Since then, she has published renowned books such as Saving Our Sons and Don’t Play in the Sun, as well as novels like The Edge of Heaven and After. Marita has also led several lectures and workshops, as well as founding the Hurston-Wright Foundation to help current and future Black authors bring their stories to life. She currently lives in Washington D.C.
Sonsyrea Tate is the author of the popular memoir Little X, which was selected by the American Library Association as a Best Book for Young Adults in 1998 and featured in the New York Library Association's Books for the Teen Age 1998 in the "USA Black America" section. She has lectured at numerous colleges and universities on a variety of topics, including the history of the Nation of Islam, Islam in the African American community, and women in Islam.
