April is National Poetry Month - the Library will be hosting the 2nd Annual PGCMLS Poetry Contest. Interested poets should submit a poem discussing how and why they love their local library. The contest will run throughout April, and poems will be sent to the judges on May 1. Winners will be notified by May 15.
The awards ceremony will be held during the Open Mic event on May 26 from 7-8:30 pm, where winners will be asked to perform their poems.
Poems should discuss how and why you love your local library! All entries should be original poems, and can be any style or length. Only one entry per person. This contest is open to all ages; please keep your work family-friendly. All entrants should have a library card from Prince George's County Memorial Library System.
Winning poems will receive an Amazon gift card. Winners will be determined via judges' decision, and will be highlighted here on the PGCMLS Poetry page. Winners will also be invited to perform their poems at the "Open Mic and Second Annual Poetry Awards Ceremony" on May 26 from 7-8:30 pm.
Lower elementary: Kindergarten-3rd grade
Upper elementary: 4th-5th grade
Middle School: 6th-8th grade
High School: 9th-12th grade
